Professor Patrick Akata Nwofe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering (UAAE), Ezza, Ebonyi State, is a distinguished scholar, researcher and academic administrator whose wealth of experience and global scientific exposure are driving the vision of the emerging specialised institution.
With an impressive career spanning academia, research and university administration, Professor Nwofe has established himself as an authority in solid state physics, renewable energy technologies and scientific innovation, positioning him as a key figure in Nigeria’s drive towards advancing aerospace education and technological development.
Born on November 12, 1974, Professor Nwofe obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He later earned an MSc with Commendation in Optoelectronic and Communication Systems and a PhD in Photovoltaic Materials and Solar Cells from Northumbria University, United Kingdom.
He is also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Matsuame International Foundation, Japan, and a recipient of the prestigious TWAS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, reflecting his strong contributions to global scientific research.
A Professor of Solid State and Solar Energy Physics, Nwofe began his academic journey at Ebonyi State University in 2006 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2019. Over the years, he has held several academic and administrative positions, including Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Science, Head of the Department of Industrial Physics, and Chairman of the Faculty Committee on Research.
He has also contributed to academic quality assurance as an external examiner at Enugu State University of Science and Technology since 2022.
Professor Nwofe’s research profile is internationally recognised, with over 100 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, an H-index of 16 and hundreds of scholarly citations. His research interests cover renewable energy, photovoltaic materials, solar cells, optoelectronic devices and space physics.
His scholarly contributions have taken him across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America, where he has presented research findings at various international scientific platforms and earned several academic fellowships, scholarships and awards.
His expertise in advanced technologies, scientific research, engineering innovation and space-related studies provides a strong foundation for his leadership role at UAAE, an institution established to promote excellence in aeronautics and aerospace engineering.
Professor Nwofe was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering in September 2024 and became the substantive Vice-Chancellor in October 2025.
Under his leadership, the university is positioned to become a centre of excellence for aerospace education, research and technological advancement, not only in Nigeria but across Africa.
