The Ebonyi State Government has completed the payment of pensions and gratuities to the remaining verified Local Government retirees in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, including those who participated in the recent mop-up verification exercise.
The Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Mr. Emeka Nwonu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
According to the statement, the latest payment concludes the settlement of pension and gratuity entitlements for all eligible Local Government retirees from 1996 to date, in line with the commitment of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration to improve the welfare of retired public servants.
Mr. Nwonu commended Governor Nwifuru for fulfilling his promise to clear the outstanding entitlements, describing the achievement as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to responsible, compassionate, and people-oriented governance.
He noted that the successful payment of the remaining verified retirees reflects the government’s determination to honor the years of dedicated service rendered by Local Government workers.
“The promise made has been fulfilled. With the payment of the remaining verified retirees in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, including those who participated in the mop-up exercise, all eligible Local Government retirees from 1996 to date have now received their pensions and gratuities,” the statement said.
The Pension Board expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for keeping his promise to retirees, noting that the successful completion of the exercise represents a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to promote the welfare and dignity of retired public servants across Ebonyi State.
