Key excerpts to note following the flag off of the construction of Enyim Bridge by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, on May 14, 202
- The 5-span bridge across the river located at Enyim Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, is bordered on the opposite side by Oju Local Government Area of Benue State. The road leading up to the bridge will be done as well, by the same contractor handling the bridge.
- The Enyim bridge project is being done by the Nigerian Army. The Engineering Department of the Army handles it under the leadership of Major General Tonye Thanks Numbere, the 35th Commander Corps of Engineers (CCE) of the Nigerian Army. Incidentally, Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Abakaliki has an Engineering Corps as part of its structure, specifically, it is the 24 Engineer Support Regiment.
- Benue, known as Nigeria’s Food Basket, is one of the highest agricultural-producing states in Nigeria. Benue produces yam, sweet potatoes, cassava, mangoes, oranges, soya beans, guinea corn, groundnuts, and so on. The Enyim bridge provides a sure route for these crops to be moved to our large markets in Ebonyi, while our rice goes the other way, up to the North.
- The bridge is a gateway to huge commercial activities for Ebonyi State, especially in the area of transportation. It will fully activate the transportation system in Ebonyi State to Abuja and other Northern states. As we gear on for our International and Cargo Airport to resume flight operations, the bridge will serve as a link for a wide range of movements through the State.
- Enyim Agbaja is home to various important institutions such as the Sudan Mission Hospital, School of Health, Motherless Babies Home, and School for the Deaf. These institutions are pinpoint beneficiaries of the bridge when completed, because the interconnectivity spanning between the two states will provide the institutions with better publicity, functionality, quality, and growth.
All thanks to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Governor, Ebonyi State. In truth, the People’s Charter of Needs agenda is firmly on course.
