New Traffic Light Along Ezza Road
Earlier this morning, while en route to work, I took this photo after noticing how the new traffic lights have organized the city. It reminded me that in cities striving for progress, the smallest signals often carry the strongest messages. Governor Francis OgbonnaNwifuru’s recent expansion of traffic lights across the State Capital is one such signal – a quiet but powerful commitment to safety, order, and modern urban living.
While a few have criticized the number of lights installed, the truth is that no thriving city is built on guesswork at its intersections. In saner climes, traffic lights stand as guardians of discipline and protectors of life. Ours should be no different. Far from being “too many,” these lights bring structure to our roads, reduce avoidable accidents, and restore dignity to pedestrians who can finally cross busy streets without fear. They encourage drivers to respect right-of-way, ease congestion, and create predictable movement that benefits everyone – from traders rushing to markets to parents taking children to school.

The presence of traffic lights is one of the clearest markers of a city ready to rise. More importantly, they reflect the kind of forward-thinking leadership Ebonyi State enjoys today – leadership that plans not only for today’s population but for the future’s growth.
Yet, for this vision to endure, the lights must remain consistently functional. A traffic light that goes dark becomes a danger; one that keeps shining becomes a symbol of reliability. So we pray that those entrusted with their management remain diligent – maintaining them, powering them, and keeping them alive as daily reminders that order and safety are a shared responsibility.
Well done, Your Excellency.
