The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr. Theophilus Ifeanyi Igwe, has described the Speaker and Member representing Ikwo South Constituency, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, as “the Moses of our time,” citing his leadership style, legislative accomplishments, and grassroots development initiatives as reasons why the people should renew his mandate in 2027.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Igwe said Odunwa’s three years in office as Speaker and representative of Ikwo South had been marked by purposeful leadership, legislative productivity, and sustained commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
According to him, the Speaker has presided over one of the most peaceful and productive State Assemblies in the country, overseeing the passage of landmark legislation aimed at strengthening economic growth, youth empowerment, healthcare delivery, education, road infrastructure, investment promotion, environmental protection, disability inclusion, electricity reforms, business development, and sustainable governance in Ebonyi State.
He noted that the Assembly, under Odunwa’s leadership, had consistently ensured the timely passage of annual budgets and enacted laws that continue to support the implementation of Governor Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
The CPS further stated that despite his statewide responsibilities as Speaker, Odunwa had remained committed to the development of Ikwo South Constituency through numerous constituency projects and empowerment programmes.
He listed free medical outreaches across the ten political wards of the constituency, health insurance enrolment for hundreds of residents, road projects, distribution of fertilisers, improved rice seedlings, herbicides, and other farming inputs as part of the lawmaker’s interventions to improve the lives of the people.
Igwe also highlighted the Speaker’s investments in education, noting that he had sponsored school fees for indigent students, supported candidates writing the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), assisted medical and law students, facilitated educational opportunities for young people, and attracted a major classroom project to Community Primary School, Ndiegu Amagu.
According to the statement, Odunwa also intervened on behalf of 500-level medical students of Ebonyi State University, describing education as a critical tool for sustainable development.
Beyond infrastructure and education, the CPS said the Speaker had quietly provided financial assistance, medical support, employment opportunities, and humanitarian interventions to many families without seeking publicity.
He added that several young people had secured state and federal government jobs through the Speaker’s efforts.
On peacebuilding, Igwe described Odunwa as a unifying figure whose leadership had fostered harmony within the State Assembly, among political stakeholders, and across Ikwo Local Government Area, where he serves as Chairman of the Peace Implementation Committee.
He further noted that the annual Unity Cup Football Competition initiated by the Speaker had continued to promote peace, youth engagement, and sports development while discovering emerging talents.
The statement also cited the installation of solar-powered street lights and the provision of motorised and manual boreholes in several communities as part of Odunwa’s efforts to improve security and access to potable water.
Igwe said the Speaker’s contributions had earned him national recognition, including his emergence as Deputy Chairman of the APC Speakers’ Forum and his recognition as Best Speaker of the Year by the South East Caucus of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the Chief Press Secretary urged the people of Ikwo South Constituency to sustain what he described as “tested and effective leadership” by re-electing Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa.
He argued that continuity would ensure ongoing development projects are completed and provide greater opportunities for the constituency.
“Progress must not be interrupted. Development should not be abandoned midway. The future of Ikwo South requires experienced, compassionate, and visionary leadership,” the statement read.
The statement concluded by expressing confidence that the Speaker’s record of service would continue to earn him the trust and support of the people ahead of the 2027 elections.
