Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has continued to strengthen access to justice in the state through the expansion of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), providing citizens with more flexible and amicable avenues for resolving disputes.
The initiative, implemented through the Ebonyi State Multi-Door Courthouse and the Citizens’ Mediation Centre, reflects the Governor’s commitment to peace, reconciliation and a justice system that responds effectively to the needs of the people.
The reform recognises that not every dispute needs to end in prolonged courtroom litigation. In many cases, disputes can be resolved through dialogue, mediation and reconciliation, allowing parties to reach mutually acceptable solutions while preserving relationships.
Under the initiative, Ebonyians facing disputes involving family matters, business partnerships, neighbourhood disagreements and other civil conflicts can explore mediation where appropriate.
The development does not seek to replace the conventional courts. Rather, it provides additional pathways to justice, ensuring that citizens can choose the most appropriate mechanism for resolving their disputes.
Where litigation is necessary, the courts remain available. Where mediation offers a more suitable solution, the Multi-Door Courthouse and Citizens’ Mediation Centre provide another avenue for parties to resolve their differences peacefully and efficiently.
The strengthening of ADR is therefore another significant step in the implementation of Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs, particularly its focus on delivering responsive and people-centred governance.
The initiative also underscores the administration’s broader commitment to ensuring that justice is not only available but accessible, flexible and responsive to the realities of ordinary citizens.
