Ebonyi women from the 13 Local Government Areas of the state on Wednesday converged on the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, for the grand finale of the 2026 Ebonyi State Women August Meeting.
The event, organised under the theme, “The Power of Resilient Women in Nation Building,” was hosted by the First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru.
The gathering brought together women leaders, government officials, wives of council chairmen, stakeholders and other participants from across the state to celebrate the contributions of women to family and community development.
The Honourable Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator David Nweze Umahi, CON, served as chairman of the occasion, while the Deputy Governor of the state, Her Excellency Princess Patricia Obila, represented Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady described Ebonyi women as important contributors to the development of families, communities and the state.
She urged women to remain resilient and actively participate in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, development and improved livelihoods.
According to her, women have a significant role to play in strengthening families and contributing to the socio-economic development of society.
“When a woman rises, a family rises. When women rise together, a nation is transformed,” she said.
The 2026 August Meeting featured keynote presentations, health outreach activities, skills exhibitions and testimonials from women who have made contributions in different sectors.
The programme also provided an opportunity for participants to showcase skills and initiatives aimed at improving their economic and social wellbeing.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Nwifuru encouraged Ebonyi women to remain peacebuilders and agents of positive change in their homes and communities.
She also urged them to support the implementation of the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs, particularly initiatives targeted at improving the welfare and development of citizens.
“Let us not just occupy spaces. Let us transform them. Let us build legacies that our daughters will be proud to inherit,” she said.
The grand finale brought to a close the 2026 Ebonyi Women August Meeting, with participants highlighting the importance of unity, resilience, empowerment and women’s participation in the development of the state.
