Student leaders and the wider student community across tertiary institutions in Ebonyi State have unanimously endorsed Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing his administration’s achievements in education and student welfare.
The endorsement was formalized through a joint communiqué and a motion adopted by Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents, Senate Presidents, and other student leaders during a solidarity rally held in Abakaliki.Speaking at the event, the student leaders commended Governor Nwifuru for placing education at the forefront of his administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
They pointed to several initiatives they described as transformative, including local and international postgraduate scholarship programmes, substantial reductions in tuition fees across state-owned tertiary institutions, increased monthly subventions to the institutions, and improved salaries for both academic and non-academic staff.According to the students, these interventions have contributed to uninterrupted academic calendars and enhanced the quality of education in Ebonyi State.
In separate goodwill messages, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Nwafor Joshua, and the Special Assistant on Student Mobilization, Princess Odono Angel, praised the Governor’s commitment to youth development and educational advancement.
They also disclosed that students across the state had intensified efforts to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), expressing confidence that the student community would support Governor Nwifuru’s re-election bid in 2027 in appreciation of what they described as his unwavering support for young people.
Responding on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, thanked the student leadership and the broader student population for what she described as their solidarity and confidence in the administration.
While receiving the endorsement certificate presented by the student delegation, she conveyed the Governor’s appreciation and assured the students that the administration would continue to invest in education through more technology-driven, innovative, and adequately funded policies aimed at equipping Ebonyi youths with the skills needed to compete globally.T
The endorsement marks one of the earliest organized declarations of support for Governor Nwifuru’s anticipated 2027 re-election bid from a major stakeholder group within the state.
