The youths of Ebonyi State have passed a vote of confidence in the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, while distancing themselves from a protest staged in Abuja on September 8, 2026, against the governor.
In a communique issued and signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization and Development, Comrade Chinedu Emerike Orji, the youths described the Abuja demonstration as a “charade” allegedly organised by hired protesters to discredit the governor.
The group maintained that Ebonyi State remains peaceful under Governor Nwifuru’s administration and provides a conducive environment for political activities by members of different political parties.
According to the communique, allegations that the governor has been intimidating, oppressing or stifling opposition political parties in the state are “unfounded” and without any basis.
The youths also alleged that the individuals who participated in the Abuja protest were acting on a paid mission, describing the demonstration as an attempt to smear the governor’s reputation and distract attention from his administration’s developmental achievements.
They further rejected claims of executive rascality against Governor Nwifuru, insisting that he had not used the Nigeria Police Force or other security agencies to intimidate individuals or groups in the state.
The communique stated that Ebonyi remained one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, with security provided for lawful gatherings and the daily activities of residents.
Highlighting what they described as the governor’s achievements and youth-friendly policies, the Ebonyi youths declared their continued support for his administration and expressed confidence in his leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They consequently endorsed Governor Nwifuru and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections, declaring that there was “no vacancy” in the Ebonyi State Government House.
The youths also called on residents, stakeholders and young people across the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding and united, while resisting what they described as attempts to create political tension in the state.
The group stressed that the Abuja protest did not represent the collective position of Ebonyi youths.
