The Ezza Ezekuna General Youth Assembly (EEGYA) has unanimously adopted the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election, while also endorsing all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) contesting elective positions across the state.
The resolution formed part of a communiqué issued at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of the Assembly, held on Saturday, July 12, 2026, at the Ezza Ezekuna Civic Centre, Amana. The meeting was presided over by the National President of the Assembly, Engr. Jeff Ogbu, Ph.D, and attended by youth executives from the 40 communities that make up Ezza Clan.
In the communiqué, EEGYA reaffirmed that it remains the only recognized, legitimate, and binding umbrella youth organization representing all youths of Ezza Clan. It stressed that any group claiming to speak on behalf of Ezza youths without the Assembly’s mandate does not represent the collective position of the clan.
The Assembly commended Governor Nwifuru for what it described as his administration’s remarkable developmental achievements, noting that Ezza Clan has benefited significantly from investments in road infrastructure, human capital development, youth empowerment, and social welfare programmes.
EEGYA also applauded the Governor’s peace-building efforts, particularly in restoring stability to previously troubled communities such as Effium and Abaomege/Ishinkwo. According to the Assembly, the Governor’s commitment to dialogue, justice, and security has ushered in lasting peace and renewed hope for the affected communities.
The youth body further expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for appointing several sons and daughters of Ezza Clan, including many young people, into strategic positions within his administration. It described the appointments as a demonstration of inclusive governance that has strengthened the clan’s participation in the affairs of the state.
Following what it described as a critical assessment of the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, EEGYA formally adopted Governor Nwifuru as its sole governorship candidate. The Assembly also endorsed all APC candidates contesting senatorial, House of Representatives, State House of Assembly, and the forthcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State.
It explained that the endorsement was based on the Governor’s performance in office, the need to sustain ongoing developmental initiatives, and the importance of continuity in governance.
The Assembly also declared that Ezza Clan has no interest in producing either the Governor or Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State in 2027. It said the position aligns with the state’s existing power rotation arrangement and the principles of equity and fairness.
Consequently, EEGYA cautioned all sons and daughters of Ezza Clan against accepting nominations as governorship or deputy governorship candidates under any political party. It urged anyone who had already accepted such a nomination to withdraw immediately or face what it described as the collective resolve of Ezza youths.
The Assembly further condemned individuals allegedly impersonating EEGYA and using its name to advance political interests. It specifically distanced itself from a recent endorsement of the factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Chukwuma Ifeanyi Odii, by a group claiming to represent Ezza youths.
Describing the group as faceless impersonators, EEGYA declared them persona non grata and called on relevant security agencies to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible in accordance with the law.
On voter participation, the Assembly urged all Ezza youths and stakeholders to take advantage of the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. It also called on community leaders to mobilize eligible voters across all Ezza communities to ensure robust participation in the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming its political position, EEGYA restated its support for Governor Nwifuru and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections, declaring that it would resist, through lawful and democratic means, any attempt to undermine or distract from the success of its adopted candidates within Ezza Clan.
