The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, has reaffirmed her commitment to protecting the dignity, rights, and future of children and vulnerable persons as the world observes the International Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
In a statement commemorating the occasion, Mrs. Nwifuru called for collective action to combat human trafficking, urging individuals, communities, and relevant stakeholders to remain vigilant in protecting those at risk of exploitation.
She noted that this year’s theme, “Trapped Behind the Scam,” highlights the deceptive tactics used by traffickers to lure and exploit vulnerable people through false promises, stressing the need for greater awareness and concerted efforts, particularly in safeguarding young people and girls.
The Ebonyi First Lady said that through the BERWO Foundation, she has continued to empower women and girls, create awareness, and support initiatives aimed at preventing human trafficking by providing vulnerable persons with hope, knowledge, and opportunities to build better futures.
Mrs. Nwifuru urged parents, community leaders, and stakeholders to speak up against trafficking and support efforts to protect children and vulnerable individuals across the state.
She expressed confidence that through sustained advocacy, empowerment, and collaboration, Ebonyi State can become a safer environment where every child is free to dream, grow, and thrive.
