Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has assured the people of the Ohanivo bloc of his administration’s continued collaboration with their leaders to accelerate development across the area.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday, September 26, 2026, while speaking at Oshiri Central School, Oshiri, during the Ohanivo New Yam Festival.
Nwifuru commended the people of Ohanivo for their support for his administration and urged them to sustain their backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the President for what he described as his support for Ebonyi State through federal projects and appointments, particularly the appointment of an Ebonyian as Minister of Works.
“We thank Mr. President for his support to us as a State through projects and appointments. He gave us a Minister in charge of Works, first in our history as a State,” Nwifuru said.
He added that the state would dedicate a special occasion to celebrate the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for his contributions to Ebonyi.
According to the governor, Ohanivo remains strategically important to the development of the state.
“I will continue to work closely with the leaders of the bloc for an accelerated development. The bloc occupies centre stage in the state’s development trajectories; as such, we will always churn out policies that will benefit them,” he said.
Addressing the need to reconnect communities through improved infrastructure and road networks, Nwifuru disclosed that the remaining section of the Oshiri-Ugwulangwu Road would be completed after the conclusion of arrangements with the Federal Ministry of Works.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, expressed confidence in the continued support of the people of Ohanivo and Ebonyi South for the administration of President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru.
Umahi said, “When the Governor is moving, I am moving with him. We have a pact with the President and the Governor to do eight years in office and there is no going back on this pact.”
The minister, who expressed appreciation for Nwifuru’s leadership, described the governor as a valuable asset to the state.
“We are grateful for the gift of Governor Nwifuru,” Umahi said.
In a motion moved by Chief Ifesinachi Odii and supported by Ogbuefi Enekwachi Akpa, the people of Ohanivo, comprising Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Local Government Areas, expressed their support for Governor Nwifuru and urged him not to be distracted by what they described as political merchants.
They assured the governor of their support ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that equity, fairness and social justice remain fundamental to peace and sustainable development in Ebonyi State.
The Ohanivo New Yam Festival brought together traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials and indigenes of the three local government areas to celebrate the cultural heritage and unity of the bloc.
