The people of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have declared their total support for the second-term ambition of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming their commitment to the state’s rotational equity arrangement.
The declaration was made on Friday, August 14, 2026, during the official flag-off of the APC Local Government Election Campaign at the Onicha Council Headquarters, ahead of the August 22, 2026, local government elections.
Governor Nwifuru, represented at the event by his Deputy, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, GCEHF, also commissioned a number of development projects executed by the Chairman of Onicha LGA, Hon. Ikechukwu Ogbofia.
The commissioned projects included the Abaomege Ultra-Modern Shopping Plaza, the Anumocha Idemayo one-span bridge, and a three-bedroom bungalow constructed for a childless widow in Abaomege, among others.
Commending the council chairman for his achievements, the governor said the projects were consistent with the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda and demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development.
He noted that Ogbofia’s performance during his first term justified his re-election, while expressing appreciation to the people of Onicha for their massive turnout and continued support for the APC.
The governor’s deputy subsequently presented the APC flag to Hon. Ikechukwu Ogbofia, the party’s chairmanship candidate for Onicha LGA.Speaking at the occasion, the State Chairman of the APC, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, commended the people of Onicha for their loyalty to the party.
Emegha also cautioned against attempts to undermine the established zoning and equitable power-sharing arrangement in the state, describing the framework as essential to maintaining political harmony and stability.
The Chairman of the State APC Local Government Campaign Council, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu; Chairman of the occasion, Elder Prof. Chigozie Ogbu; Senator Anthony Okorie Ani; Hon. Kama Nkemkanma; Rt. Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa; and Hon. Celestine Ogba, among other party leaders, assured the state leadership that Onicha remained a stronghold of the APC.
They pledged that the local government would work towards delivering an overwhelming victory for the party at the polls.
In his remarks, the APC chairmanship candidate, Hon. Ikechukwu Ogbofia, expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru and the party leadership for their support.
Ogbofia promised to consolidate the achievements recorded during his first tenure, deepen development across the council area and sustain peace among the various communities if re-elected.
The event was attended by the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Odunwa, and other government officials, party leaders, stakeholders and supporters.
