The people of Onicha Igboeze Clan in Ebonyi State have unanimously adopted Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as their sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election, pledging massive support for his re-election bid.
The declaration was made on Wednesday during a solidarity visit by leaders and stakeholders of the clan to Governor Nwifuru at his office in Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.
The delegation dismissed claims that the clan had resolved to vote along ethnic lines, insisting that it remains committed to equity, unity and continued support for the governor’s administration.
The Onicha Igboeze delegation comprised representatives of the 26 council wards, two autonomous communities, traditional prime ministers, village chairmen, town union executives, women groups and youth leaders.
Addressing the visitors, Governor Nwifuru urged the people to remain united and work together in pursuit of their collective development goals, assuring them that more government interventions and projects would be extended to the area.
“You must remain united, supportive and collaborative in pursuit of your common interests and goals. We will do more for your people, award more projects and hasten the completion of ongoing ones,” the governor said.
Speaking on behalf of the clan, the Town Union President, Barr. Eze Ogbonnaya Eze, said the visit was to express appreciation for the governor’s People’s Charter of Needs Agenda and its impact on the development of Onicha Igboeze.
He listed several interventions credited to the administration, including the construction of 26 classroom blocks at Onicha Central School, the ongoing 16-kilometre Amanato–Isu Road project, appointments of indigenes as Permanent Secretary, Commissioners and Special Assistants, as well as the inclusion of beneficiaries from the clan in local and foreign scholarship programmes.
According to Eze, gratitude remains one of the cherished values of the Onicha Igboeze people, adding that the clan would reciprocate the governor’s support through overwhelming electoral backing in 2027.
“We are grateful people. For all you have done for us, we are very grateful. It is in appreciation of your good works that we will vote massively for you. All the polling units in our clan will be delivered to you in 2027 and to all APC candidates,” he stated.
The visit ended with renewed assurances of political support for Governor Nwifuru and continued collaboration with his administration for the development of Onicha Igboeze Clan.
