The First Lady of Ebonyi State and Founder of the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO), Chief Mrs. Uzo-Amaka Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has facilitated the enrollment of 200 persons living with sickle cell disorder into the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA), reaffirming her commitment to improving healthcare access for vulnerable residents.
The enrollment, carried out as part of BERWO Foundation’s annual support programme for sickle cell warriors, is aimed at providing beneficiaries with access to quality healthcare while reducing the financial burden of medical treatment on them and their families.
Speaking through the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barr. Mrs. Felicia Nwankpuma, who represented her at the ceremony, Mrs. Nwifuru said the initiative underscores the Foundation’s unwavering dedication to promoting the health and well-being of persons living with sickle cell disorder.
“Every sickle cell warrior deserves quality healthcare, compassion, and the opportunity to live a full and healthy life. Through this enrollment into the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency, we are strengthening access to essential healthcare services and easing the financial burden on affected individuals and their families. We will continue to champion initiatives that bring hope, improve lives, and build a healthier, more inclusive Ebonyi State,” she said.
The First Lady expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development for representing her at the event and commended the BERWO Foundation team as well as the management of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency for their commitment and partnership in expanding healthcare coverage for people living with sickle cell disorder.
