Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the ongoing 2026 Local Government Elections across the state, expressing satisfaction with the large turnout of voters.
Governor Nwifuru stated this shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit, Edupfu Okemini 002, Enyanwuigwe Ward, in Izzi Local Government Area.
The Governor said reports from across the state indicated that voters had turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise and elect candidates of their choice.
He expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious in the elections, saying the party had earned the confidence and support of the people.
Asked whether he was seeking the endorsement of other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, Nwifuru said his priority was to secure the endorsement of the people of Ebonyi State rather than that of political parties.
“I want Ebonyi people to endorse me, not political parties. That has been my stake,” he said.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the people of Ebonyi for their continued support, while stressing the importance of having strong political opponents.
“We expect other political parties to compete with us even in the general elections. You need opponents who can compete with you because they can teach you certain things without hiding your lapses,” he said.
The 2026 Local Government Elections are being conducted simultaneously across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas and 171 electoral wards.
