The Chief Press Secretary to Ebonyi State Governor, Monday Uzor, has commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for restoring peace in Effium and creating an environment conducive to development and normal socio-political activities in the troubled community.
Uzor made the commendation during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, where he described the return of political activities to Effium as a clear indication that peace and normalcy had been restored.
According to him, Governor Nwifuru inherited the crisis in Effium when he assumed office but took decisive steps to address the situation and stabilise the area.
“One of the major achievements of His Excellency there is the restoration of peace,” Uzor said, noting that the ongoing demarcation exercise was also part of the administration’s efforts to consolidate the peace process.
He explained that the ability of political parties to organise rallies in Effium was evidence of the significant progress recorded in the restoration of normal life.
“Even last week, we went there for a rally, which would have been impossible in the last four years. Our rally took place in Effium, which is an indication that peace has returned fully,” he stated.
The CPS, who said he hails from the area, appealed to residents to protect and sustain the prevailing peace, stressing that meaningful development could not thrive in an atmosphere of conflict.
He also commended the turnout and peaceful conduct of APC supporters during the Ohaukwu rally, saying the exercise provided the party with an opportunity to engage directly with people at the grassroots and highlight the achievements of the Nwifuru administration.
Uzor maintained that the administration had created an atmosphere where citizens could freely participate in political activities and make their choices based on their assessment of government performance.
He expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in the forthcoming local government elections and its chances of sustaining its political momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
On allegations that opposition politicians were being prevented from contesting elections in the state, Uzor dismissed the claims, insisting that political ambition was legitimate and that anyone interested in contesting was free to test his or her popularity at the polls.
“Ambition is never a crime anywhere. If anybody wants to try, let that person try. At the end, we will now find out that the person may not have been popular enough to have won,” he said.
The governor’s spokesperson further attributed the growing support for the APC in Ebonyi to what he described as the administration’s performance and engagement with the people, rather than coercion.
