The Ebonyi State Government has continued to strengthen its healthcare workforce with the absorption of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) into the state civil service, following a waiver granted by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
The successful beneficiaries received their appointment letters on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, Block 10, Centenary City, Abakaliki.
Speaking to the beneficiaries during the presentation, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, Lady Virginia Okemini Oketa, urged the newly absorbed workers to take their appointments seriously and demonstrate commitment to their duties.
Oketa said the beneficiaries should reciprocate the gesture of the governor by contributing meaningfully to the development of the state, stressing that truancy, indiscipline and laxity would not be tolerated.
Describing Governor Nwifuru as a leader with a golden heart and a special gift to Ebonyi State, the commission chairman urged the beneficiaries to conduct themselves in a manner that would not tarnish the image of the state government.
She further reiterated the commission’s commitment to treating applicants and workers fairly and without marginalisation.
Oketa directed the newly employed workers to collect their appointment letters and proceed to the Ministry of Health for further directives regarding their deployment and resumption of duties.
The presentation of the appointment letters was greeted with jubilation as the beneficiaries praised God, sang solidarity songs and expressed appreciation to the governor for approving their absorption into the state workforce.
Amid the celebrations, the beneficiaries unanimously declared their political support for Governor Nwifuru, chanting: “Nwifuru we know, come 2027, no vacancy.”
The declaration added to the atmosphere of celebration as the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity to secure formal employment and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them by the state government.
