Civil servants in Ebonyi State have commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for approving the confirmation of 1,827 workers who have successfully completed the mandatory two-year probation period.
The confirmation exercise, which commenced on Thursday, is being conducted ministry by ministry at the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, Block 10, Centenary City, Abakaliki, and is scheduled to run until September 30.
The exercise is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the state civil service, improve workers’ welfare and provide greater job security for eligible employees under the People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
Speaking during the exercise, beneficiaries described the process as smooth and straightforward, explaining that it was primarily aimed at verifying the authenticity of information supplied by the affected workers.
One of the beneficiaries, Chukwu Happiness Uzomaka, from Ivo Local Government Area, Ishiagu, and serving with the Ministry of Infrastructure, expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for giving her the opportunity to become a confirmed civil servant.
Uzomaka prayed for continued success for the Governor, describing the confirmation as an important development for the beneficiaries.
Similarly, Eze Gabriel Sochukwu, from the Ministry of Infrastructural Development, thanked the Governor for approving the exercise.
According to him, while previous administrations had contributed to the development of the state, the opportunity for confirmation had not been extended to them.
He said the exercise was neither stressful nor intimidating, but was simply designed to establish that the information provided by workers was accurate.
“It’s just about being sure that the information that you gave is real, that the information that you gave is really true,” he said.
The beneficiaries said the confirmation would give them greater stability, confidence and a stronger sense of belonging in the state civil service.
The development also reflects the administration’s recognition of civil servants as critical partners in governance and key drivers of government policies and programmes.
Through the People’s Charter of Needs, the Nwifuru administration has continued to emphasise workers’ welfare and the repositioning of the public service for improved efficiency and service delivery.
The latest confirmation exercise is therefore expected to further strengthen the workforce and motivate eligible civil servants to contribute more effectively to the development of Ebonyi State.
