The Ebonyi State Government has announced that the July edition of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., as part of efforts to promote a cleaner, healthier, and greener environment across the state.
The announcement was made in a public service statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Sylvester Nwenugwu Nwite, who said the exercise reflects the commitment of Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration to environmental sustainability and public health.
Residents of the state have been urged to actively participate in the sanitation exercise by clearing overgrown grasses, sweeping their compounds, desilting gutters and drainages, and ensuring that all waste generated is properly bagged and disposed of only at government-approved dump sites.
To ensure a successful exercise, the government announced that there will be no vehicular or human movement during the sanitation period. Sporting activities, religious programmes, and the loading or offloading of goods are also prohibited between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
However, exemptions have been granted to essential service providers, including healthcare personnel, security operatives, and accredited members of the press. Such individuals are required to present valid means of identification to the Ministry of Environment’s Special Taskforce while carrying out their duties.
The government warned that anyone found violating the sanitation restrictions would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the Ebonyi State Environmental Laws.
The Commissioner called on Ebonyians and all residents of the state to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment and support Governor Nwifuru’s vision of maintaining a clean, healthy, and conducive environment for the benefit of all.
Hon. Nwite reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to sustaining regular environmental sanitation exercises aimed at improving public health, enhancing environmental cleanliness, and preserving the aesthetic appeal of communities across Ebonyi State.
