Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the state, in a move aimed at strengthening youth welfare and development.
The announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Old MacGregor College, Afikpo.
Representing Governor Nwifuru at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, welcomed the corps members to Ebonyi and assured them of the state government’s commitment to their welfare, security and personal development.
Onyia described Ebonyi as a peaceful, secure and hospitable state with opportunities for young people. He urged the corps members to make meaningful use of their service year by embracing cultural diversity, building relationships with their host communities and contributing positively to the development of the state.
He said the state government remained committed to supporting the growth, welfare and safety of corps members throughout their service year.
The governor’s initiative comes as part of the state’s broader support for youth development and its partnership with the NYSC.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi State Government for its continued support for the scheme but called for further improvements to facilities at the orientation camp.
Maidariya appealed to the state government to modernise the camp’s central kitchen and construct a standard dining facility. She also requested the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre, renovation of the perimeter fence and upgrades to the multi-purpose hall.
She urged the newly sworn-in corps members to remain disciplined, participate actively in camp programmes and uphold the core NYSC values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.
The ceremony featured the formal swearing-in and oath-taking of the corps members, alongside other activities marking the commencement of their national service.
The ₦30,000 monthly state stipend is expected to provide additional financial support to corps members deployed to Ebonyi and further strengthen the state’s partnership with the NYSC in promoting youth development and national integration.
