Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and finding a lasting solution to the longstanding boundary dispute between Amasiri and Edda communities.
Governor Nwifuru stated this while addressing the people of Ebonyi State on Wednesday, following his receipt of the interim report of the Amasiri-Edda Boundary Adjustment and Demarcation Committee.
The Governor acknowledged that the dispute had caused pain, loss and tension among the affected communities for generations, stressing that the conflict must not be allowed to continue undermining peace and development in the state.
According to him, the government’s priority is not to favour any individual or community but to ensure lasting peace and stability.
“Our interest is not to favour anyone or any community. Our interest is peace — peace that will give us development. Where there is no peace, there is no development,” Nwifuru said.
The Governor consequently directed that the status quo ante bellum be maintained while the demarcation exercise continues.
He warned individuals and communities against interfering with or trespassing on lands belonging to others, emphasizing the need for restraint and respect for the ongoing process.
Nwifuru also directed the reinstatement of the traditional rulers of Ndukwae and Amasiri, as part of measures aimed at restoring stability and confidence among the affected communities.
The Governor assured the people that his administration remained willing to pursue dialogue and peaceful resolution of the dispute, stressing that peace would remain a non-negotiable priority of his administration.
“We are willing to make peace, and we will continue to work for peace across Ebonyi State,” he said.
He called on all stakeholders and residents of the affected communities to cooperate with the government and the boundary demarcation committee in the interest of lasting peace, development and unity in Ebonyi State.
