The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has commended Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his commitment to the welfare and development of corps members serving in the state.
Nafiu gave the commendation during an official courtesy visit to Governor Nwifuru at the Government House in Abakaliki, where he acknowledged the state government’s various interventions in support of the NYSC scheme.
The NYSC Director-General particularly praised the governor for approving a ₦30,000 monthly allowance for corps members serving in Ebonyi State, describing the gesture as a significant morale booster for young Nigerians deployed to the state for their national service.
Governor Nwifuru, who was represented at the meeting by his Deputy, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, GCEHF, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the NYSC leadership.
She highlighted measures undertaken by the state government to promote the security, welfare and integration of corps members across Ebonyi, while assuring the NYSC leadership of continued government support.
The Deputy Governor also noted the administration’s readiness to address infrastructural and logistical challenges at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo to create a more conducive environment for corps members and camp officials.
Earlier, Brig. Gen. Nafiu expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for his sustained support for youth development and the NYSC scheme. He appealed for continued state government intervention towards further upgrading facilities at the orientation camp.
The meeting brought together senior government officials and military officers, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof. Emmanuel A. Echiegu; Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Chidi Onyia; Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barr. Mrs. Felicia Nwankpuma; Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh; Special Assistant to the Governor on Deputy Governor’s Office, Hon. Mrs. Kelechi Aja-ani; Ebonyi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Malgwi Maidariya; and NYSC South-East Regional Director, Mrs. Chinyere Ekwe.
The commendation further highlights the Ebonyi State government’s growing emphasis on youth welfare, human capital development and strategic collaboration with national institutions.
