Thousands of Ebonyi indigenes resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) converged in Abuja on Saturday, July 18, for a mass rally to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for second terms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rally, organised by the FON Youth Movement, Abuja Branch, in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Community in the FCT, commenced at Barcelona Hotel. Participants later embarked on a peaceful march to the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), waving banners and placards while chanting solidarity songs in support of the two leaders.
Leading the Ebonyi State National Assembly Caucus at the event was the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi. He was joined by Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze (Ebonyi Central), Senator Anthony Ani (Ebonyi South), and members of the House of Representatives representing Ebonyi State’s six federal constituencies.
The rally attracted a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including political leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, women’s groups, and supporters from across the FCT, making it one of the largest gatherings of Ebonyi residents in Abuja in recent times.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and Federal Commissioner representing Ebonyi State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Henry Nduka Awuregu, described the rally as a strong demonstration of unity and solidarity among Ebonyi people living outside the state.
He commended members of the planning committee, volunteers, and community leaders for organising what he described as a peaceful and successful event. According to him, the endorsement reflects the confidence many participants have in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs.
Supporters at the rally also applauded Senator Nwebonyi’s leadership as Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, describing him as a strong voice for Ebonyi State in the National Assembly. They further expressed confidence in Senators Kenneth Emeka Eze and Anthony Ani, noting that the cooperation among the state’s three senators has strengthened Ebonyi’s representation at the federal level.
Members of the House of Representatives reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the senators to advance legislation and initiatives aimed at attracting more federal projects, improving infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and enhancing the welfare of Ebonyi people.
Throughout the rally, participants displayed placards and banners expressing support for President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru while reaffirming their belief that sustained collaboration between the Federal Government and Ebonyi State would accelerate development in key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic growth.
Although no official communiqué was issued at the end of the event, participants said the rally underscored the determination of Ebonyi stakeholders in the FCT to remain united in support of the state’s development agenda and national progress.
The rally comes amid increasing political consultations and public endorsements across Nigeria as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
