The Ebonyi State Government says it is making significant progress in strengthening primary healthcare delivery across the state through widespread infrastructure development, improved medical equipment, recruitment of healthcare personnel, and expanded access to essential health services.
The administration of Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has embarked on the construction of new Primary Health Centres across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, with many of the facilities complemented by staff quarters to encourage healthcare workers to live and serve within their host communities.
The initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare, particularly for residents in rural areas where medical services have often been limited. The government believes the intervention will enhance maternal and child healthcare, reduce delays in accessing treatment, and strengthen confidence in the state’s primary healthcare system.
Beyond infrastructure, the administration has equipped newly constructed health centres and upgraded several existing facilities with modern medical equipment while ensuring the steady supply of essential drugs and medical commodities to improve service delivery.
As part of efforts to strengthen diagnostic services, the government has also installed CT scan and MRI machines at the Oferekpe diagnostic centre. The investment is expected to reduce the need for patients to seek advanced diagnostic services outside the state, thereby lowering healthcare costs and improving access to specialized medical care.
Recognizing the importance of reliable electricity in healthcare delivery, the state government has solarized the diagnostic centre, cold rooms, and other health facilities to ensure uninterrupted operation of medical equipment, preserve vaccines, and improve overall efficiency.
The administration has equally intensified efforts to improve maternal and child health through the procurement of thousands of cartons of nutritional supplements for children, a move designed to combat malnutrition and improve child survival rates across the state.
In addition, the recruitment of skilled birth attendants and other healthcare professionals is expected to strengthen frontline healthcare services, particularly in maternal care, immunization, emergency response, and community health interventions.
The government has also invested in oxygen infrastructure across health facilities, enhancing the capacity of hospitals to manage respiratory emergencies and provide lifesaving support to critically ill patients.
The comprehensive healthcare reforms reflect the Nwifuru administration’s commitment to building a functional healthcare system that prioritizes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, maternal and child health, emergency care, and improved access to quality medical services for residents across Ebonyi State.
According to the Governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, Mr. Leo Ekene Oketa, the administration remains committed to ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to every resident, irrespective of location, as part of its broader agenda to improve the welfare and well-being of the people of Ebonyi State.
