Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has approved the recruitment of 2,000 qualified teachers into Ebonyi State’s public primary and junior secondary schools, a move aimed at revitalising the education sector and improving learning outcomes across the state.
The recruitment marks one of the most significant investments in the state’s education sector in recent years, ending a long period without a major teacher employment exercise. The initiative is designed to address the shortage of qualified teachers, improve the teacher-to-student ratio, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning in public schools.
Education remains one of the strongest pillars of sustainable development and occupies a central place in Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs. The administration has consistently identified human capital development as a key priority, with education serving as the foundation for long-term social and economic progress.
Beyond addressing the shortage of teachers, the recruitment has created employment opportunities for 2,000 qualified Ebonyi graduates, providing livelihoods for many families while strengthening the state’s education workforce.
The teacher recruitment exercise also complements the administration’s broader education reform agenda, which includes the construction of modern model schools, the provision of improved learning infrastructure, and the enforcement of quality standards across the education sector.
According to the government, Governor Nwifuru believes the future of Ebonyi State depends largely on the quality of education available to today’s children. By investing in qualified teachers, the administration is not only improving classroom instruction but also laying the foundation for a generation equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the state’s future development.
The government described the employment of the 2,000 teachers as a clear demonstration of its commitment to building a stronger, smarter, and more prosperous Ebonyi through sustained investment in quality education and human capital development.
