An Ebonyi stakeholder and public affairs commentator, Engr. Eze Kingsley Ogechukwu, has called for issue-based politics anchored on governance and measurable performance, arguing that effective leadership remains the strongest campaign strategy.
In a statement titled “When Performance Becomes the Strongest Campaign: The Politics Ebonyi Deserves,” Ogechukwu said every election season presents voters and political actors with two distinct choices: campaigning against opponents or campaigning on the strength of proven achievements.
According to him, history has consistently demonstrated that campaigns built on tangible performance enjoy greater credibility and lasting public support than those driven by personal attacks or propaganda.
He maintained that the greatest political strength of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, lies in his administration’s record of governance rather than political rhetoric.
Ogechukwu highlighted the governor’s peace-building initiatives, noting that they have helped restore harmony in communities previously affected by conflict, describing the efforts as evidence that genuine leadership prioritizes reconciliation and stability.
He also commended the administration’s investments in the health sector, including the revitalisation of healthcare facilities, the reactivation of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme, the establishment of the Medical Diagnostic Centre at Nwofe, and the provision of modern medical equipment and specialist services. He said the interventions are positioning Ebonyi as an emerging destination for quality healthcare.
On education and human capital development, Ogechukwu pointed to the award of more than 1,400 local and foreign postgraduate scholarships to Ebonyi indigenes, alongside the recruitment of thousands of teachers and civil servants, empowerment grants for young entrepreneurs, and the settlement of long-standing pension entitlements.
He described the initiatives as achievements that deserve public attention and objective assessment.
The commentator further urged political actors to elevate public discourse by focusing on policies, ideas, competence, vision, and demonstrable results rather than personalities or distractions.
While acknowledging that the Constitution prescribes the qualifications for elective office, he stressed that the ultimate decision rests with the electorate, who should assess candidates based on their capacity to deliver effective governance.
Ogechukwu concluded that Governor Nwifuru’s record offers sufficient grounds for constructive political engagement, adding that “when performance speaks clearly, it needs no unnecessary noise.”
