A beneficiary of the Ebonyi State Government’s fully funded PhD Scholarship Programme, Dr. Ijeomanta Godslove, has described the initiative as a transformative investment in human capital, saying it has changed the lives of hundreds of Ebonyians and positioned the state for sustainable development.
In a personal account titled “A Living Testimony of the People’s Charter of Needs: My Journey as a PhD Scholarship Beneficiary,” Godslove said the postgraduate scholarship scheme, which has sponsored over 500 Ebonyi indigenes to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees in universities across Nigeria, is delivering far-reaching benefits beyond financial support.
According to him, the programme, introduced under the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has removed financial barriers to higher education and restored hope to many young scholars.
Godslove, who also serves as the Secretary General of the FON National Scholarship Awardees, said his role has afforded him the opportunity to interact with beneficiaries nationwide and witness firsthand the programme’s impact on individuals, families and communities.
He noted that beneficiaries are currently studying in diverse fields, including medicine, engineering, agriculture, law, environmental sciences, education, technology and management, with the potential to contribute significantly to the state’s future development.
The scholar maintained that while infrastructure projects remain important, investing in education and human capital offers lasting returns that benefit generations.
He further observed that the scholarship scheme has enabled many families in Ebonyi State to produce their first Master’s and PhD degree holders through what he described as a transparent and merit-based selection process.
According to him, the initiative has broken generational barriers, expanded access to postgraduate education and inspired more young people to pursue advanced academic qualifications.
Godslove described every scholarship awarded as a long-term investment that would produce lecturers, researchers, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs and policymakers capable of driving socio-economic development in Ebonyi State.
He also pledged that beneficiaries would justify the confidence reposed in them by pursuing academic excellence, upholding integrity and applying the knowledge gained in the service of Ebonyi State and Nigeria.
He added that beyond infrastructure development, teacher recruitment and improvements in the education sector, the People’s Charter of Needs is strengthening the state’s human capital base to sustain long-term growth.
Godslove concluded that his experience represents one of many success stories emerging from the scholarship programme, expressing confidence that continued investment in education would secure a brighter future for Ebonyi State.
