The Ebonyi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to educational advancement through an expansive scholarship programme designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the state’s future development.
According to the government, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has continued to prioritize education as a key pillar of his administration by investing heavily in scholarships for students at various levels.

Under the initiative, Ebonyi indigenes are currently pursuing fully funded postgraduate studies in foreign universities, while hundreds of others are benefiting from fully sponsored tertiary education in institutions across Nigeria.
The administration has also institutionalized a merit-based scholarship scheme at Ebonyi State University, where every first-class graduate—whether an indigene or non-indigene—is automatically awarded a full scholarship to pursue Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes at the institution.
The government described the scholarship programmes as strategic investments in human capital development, noting that they are aimed at strengthening research, innovation, and academic excellence while preparing a new generation of professionals to contribute to the state’s socio-economic growth.
Governor Nwifuru’s administration maintains that sustainable development begins with investing in people, emphasizing that expanding access to quality education remains central to the People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Ekene Oketa, said the administration’s sustained investment in education reflects the Governor’s belief that empowering young people through learning is the most effective pathway to building a prosperous Ebonyi State.
“In Ebonyi State today, scholarships have become a defining feature of the government’s educational policy because Governor Nwifuru understands that lasting development begins with education,” Oketa stated.
